August 26 - Informational Meeting

Come learn more about PRSSA, both at Ohio State and nationally, and meet our members. We will have an activity and prizes, and food will be provided! 

 

September 2 - Internship Mixer

Hear from current PRSSA members Andrew Lindner, Ava Soilis, Aislin Daugherty and Camille Hovest about their summer internships at various PR agencies and in-house teams in a number of industries. They’ll share their insights on how to find internship opportunities, what they learned from their experiences, and how to make the most of your role. Food will be provided. 

 

September 9 - PR at Belle Communication

Hear from Ava, a PR professional at Belle Communication, as she shares insight into her experience working across a variety of B2B and B2C clients. Ava will discuss her work in PR strategy, earned media, influencer campaigns, and other PR tactics, while giving students a look into what it’s like working with clients across industries such as utilities, foodservice, and health. She’ll also share insights from her career journey since graduating from Ohio State and advice for students interested in pursuing a career in PR.

 

September 16 - Getting Involved in PRSSA

Meet Ohio State PRSSA’s new professional advisor, Kevin Saghy, as he explains how you can get involved in PRSSA and use our chapter’s resources to kickoff your career. With experience as the former PRSSA National president and with top brands such as the Chicago Cubs, Ohio State social media, and Cleveland Cavaliers, Kevin brings a wealth of expertise to our chapter and will share it with you.

 

September 23 - Mentorship Matters: What Makes a Great Mentee

Hear from Ohio State alumna Kate Stabrawa, currently president and founder of Horseshoe Communications in Columbus. Kate will discuss what mentors look for in mentees, how to build strong professional relationships and tips for making a great impression as an entry-level professional. Food will be provided! 

 

September 30 -Words That Work: Copywriting & Social Media Strategy

Hear from Caeli Barnes, a copywriter for DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse. Caeli will discuss what her day-to-day life looks like as a copywriter, what goes into creating effective copy, and how copywriting and social media strategy work together. She’ll also share insights from her career journey and advice for students interested in pursuing a career in copywriting, content creation, or social media.

 

October 7 - Launch Your Career: Making College Count

This meeting will explore how students can use their college experience to build a strong foundation for their careers. Megan VanVollenhoven, a former PRSSA member who now works as the CEO Communications Coordinator at Delta Air Lines, will share how networking, internships, coursework, and extracurricular involvement helped shape her career, along with insights from her post-grad experience.

October 21 - Agency Life 101

This meeting will take members inside the world of agency life as we explore what it’s really like to work in a PR or communications agency. Zach Ferenchak, a Public Relations Specialist at RMB Advertising will share insight into the day-to-day agency experience while breaking down the top five myths about agency work and what students can expect when starting a career in the industry. Food will be provided! 

 

October 28 - Learn about Fahlgren Mortine

This meeting will give members an inside look at agency life from Hallie, SVP Managing Director at Fahlgren Mortine. She’ll share insights from her all-agency career journey and what students can expect from working in the PR and communications agency world.

 

November 4 - How Social Listening Helps Brands Understand Their Audiences

Hear from Ohio State alum Sheldon Henderson, Senior Analyst, Social Listening at Real Chemistry, as he shares insights into how social listening, analytics, technology, and data are shaping the communications industry. Sheldon will explore how brands use digital insights to better understand their audiences, identify trends, and inform strategic communication decisions. Students will also gain insight into the growing role of technology and data in modern communications.

November 18 - Professional Development Workshop

Join us for a professional development workshop designed to help you put your best foot forward in your career search. This meeting will include one-on-one resume reviews, helpful LinkedIn tips, and professional headshots. Attendees will have the opportunity to receive personalized feedback on their resumes, learn how to strengthen their LinkedIn presence and networking skills, and get a professional headshot to use on LinkedIn and other professional platforms. Food will be provided.

December 2 - Would You Pitch This? How PR Pros Turn Information Into News

Hear from Kevin Volz, Senior Vice President of Strategy at MediaSource, for an interactive, behind-the-scenes look at the strategic thinking that goes into public relations. Kevin will explore how PR professionals evaluate what makes a story newsworthy, identify strong story angles, develop effective media pitches, and measure success, while also discussing the role of DEI in today’s PR industry and workplace. Students will have the opportunity to apply these concepts through real-world examples and interactive exercises.Food will be provided!
